The Excavator Operator Training Simulator provides interactive instruction in basic excavator operation and skills through a comprehensive set of training lessons which progress from control orientation through complex application tasks. This virtual hands-on training provides an engaging, risk-free environment enabling operators to develop the skills and confidence necessary to:

• Operate safely and efficiently in realistic job site environments
• Demonstrate and practice numerous operating techniques in real-world tasks

During a lesson, real-time cues guide the learner through the completion of various tasks and/or alert the learner to a potential adverse condition (such as an impending safety violation). At the end of each training lesson, a summary of the learner's performance is provided in terms of estimated costs to emphasize the financial effects of an operator's performance and to provide a common measure which encourages competition. The simulator may be used in a desktop configuration, with gaming joysticks, or with replica controllers and foot pedals/levers built from actual excavator components.
